“The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire brought more awareness to working conditions, initiated the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, and helped lead to the founding of the American Society of Safety Engineers (now the American Society of Safety Professionals) in New York City, a group that works to provide safety education and standards for the workplace. All of this progress came at the expense of garment workers’ lives, many of them young immigrant women.”
